Learning and Development

Learning is at the heart of everything we do in GMROI

We value the development of our colleagues and invest heavily in every level of training from our Traineeship to Management Development Programme. Investment in our colleague learning is key to our core value – Value our People

Sales Traineeship

Sales Traineeship

GRMOI are proud to be launching Ireland’s first ever Builder’s Merchant Traineeship. The QQI accredited programme will be run in conjunction with the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB) who have had success running similar programmes in other industries. Grafton Merchanting reached out to DDLETB earlier this year when they saw the need to create a pipeline of skilled entry level Trade Sales Advisors within their branch network.

We have always had programmes for current colleagues looking to develop and progress and now the Traineeship fills a clear gap we had for entry level candidates wanting to start a career as a Trade Sales Advisor. This can be a difficult industry to get into as Trade Sales is a highly skilled profession, so we hope this programme opens the door for a new generation of Trade Sales Advisors.

Learners will spend half of their learning time completing classroom-based modules covering Customer Service, Retail Sales Skills, IT Skills, Health and Safety and Stock Control. On the job learning will then take up the remainder of the course time with learners assigned to mentors in their chosen branch.

Management Development

Management Development

Grafton Merchanting have partnered with the Institute of Leadership
& Management (ILM) to provide education and learning opportunities for colleagues wishing to develop themselves at their own pace. If you have management responsibilities but no formal training and are serious about developing your abilities as a Branch Manager, this programme will support your future career aspirations.

GMROI have run the highly successfully ILM accredited MDP for several years, consisting of a number of internal and external modules run over a two year academic period.

GMROI have now also agreed with the ILM to allow colleagues to achieve an ILM - City & Guilds qualification by completing modules at their own pace over a three year period. Each module has a number of units assigned allowing colleagues to achieve their desired qualification in their own time. ILM Qualifications: Award (3-5 units), Certificate (9-13 units), Diploma (11-20 units).
